His trade on joining was Waiter. He took his oath at Canterbur y on 23rd July 1896. Physical description : Age - 18yrs 2mths Height - 5ft 7¼ins Weight - 134lbs Chest min - 34½ins Chest max - 36½ins Complexion - Fresh Eyes - Grey Hair - Dark Brown Catholic Scars on left wrist and back of head He joined the 12th Lancers on 23rd July 1896 and transferred to the 16t h Lancers on 24th October 1902 where he was promoted to Lc Corporal unp aid from 8th Dec 1902 and paid from 1st April 1903. He transferred to the Army Reserves on 7th September 1903 and was final ly discharged on 22nd July 1908. He spent two periods in South Africa - 22/10/1899 to 27/6/00 and 19/1/0 1 to 4/9/03.
